The Department of Civil Law and Procedure
The Department of Civil Law and Procedure dates back to 1998.
As a result of the division of the Department of General Legal Disciplines at the Faculty of Law, the Department of Civil Law Disciplines was created, which was headed by Candidate of Laws, Associate Professor Bondarenko Mykola Oleksiyovych.
In 2000, Candidate of Laws, Associate Professor Usenko Volodymyr Fadeyovych became the head of the Department of Civil Law Disciplines.
In 2005, the Department of International Law was attached to the Department of Civil Law Disciplines, and the Department was named Civil and International Law, which in 2006 was headed by Candidate of Laws, Associate Professor Zabarny Hryhoriy Hryhorovych.
From 2006 to 2007, the Department was called Civil and Economic Law Disciplines.
In 2007, in connection with the creation of the Department of Economic and Legal Disciplines, the name of the Department was returned to Civil and Legal Disciplines.
Since 2011, the head of the department has been Candidate of Laws, Associate Professor Shemelynets Ivan Ivanovych.
In 2015, as a result of structural changes at the University and the creation of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Law on the basis of the Faculty of Law, the department was named Civil Law and Process.
From 2016 to 2024, the Department of Civil Law and Process was headed by Doctor of Laws, Professor Chekhovska Iryna Vasylivna.
From 2024 to the present, the head of the department is Candidate of Laws, Professor Bilianska Nataliіa Volodymyrivna.
Today, the department includes 10 scientific and pedagogical employees, including: 4 professors, 5 associate professors, 3 doctors of law and 7 candidates of law.
The department provides teaching of the following disciplines: "Civil Law of Ukraine", "Civil Procedural Law of Ukraine", "Family Law of Ukraine", "Labor Law of Ukraine", "Enforcement Proceedings", "Legal Rhetoric", "Legal Clinical Practice", "Notary Public in Ukraine", "Legal Status of the Bar and Advocacy", "Intellectual Property Law", "Current Problems of Private Law", "Current issues of family law", "Drafting civil documents", "Principles and procedures of legal proceedings", "Contract law", "Alternative methods of protecting subjective rights", "Digitalization in the private legal sphere", "Inheritance law", "IT law", Civil legal protection of consumer rights" and others.
The Department of Civil Law and Procedure trains applicants at three educational levels: the first (bachelor's) level of higher education in the educational and professional program "Advocacy and Notary. Business Law", the second (master's) level of higher education in the educational and professional program "Protection and Defense of Civil Rights", the third (PhD) level of higher education in the educational and scientific program "Law".
The department annually holds an all-Ukrainian scientific and practical internet conference "Current Problems of Private Law", which unites scientists and becomes a platform for discussing current issues of a scientific and practical nature in the field of private law. The department also constantly organizes other scientific events, in particular, the School of Family Law, the School of Private Law and others.
One of the priority tasks of the department is to conduct research activities on topical issues of the implementation and protection of private rights and interests. In 2025, the implementation of the initiative research on the topic "Civil legal protection of human rights in a social state" was completed (state registration number 0120U101807). Since 2026, the department has been working on the Research and Development program on the topic "Private legal regulation of relations in the sphere of physical culture and sports in Ukraine" (state registration number 0126U2587).
Members of the department constantly improve their scientific and practical level by participating in advanced training, internships, scientific and scientific and practical events held at the international and all-Ukrainian levels.
The scientific and pedagogical staff of the department are members of various public associations, in particular: the All-Ukrainian public movement “Ukraine for Family”, the All-Ukrainian public organization “Association of Ukrainian Lawyers”, the Public Organization “Institute for the Protection of Citizens’ Information Rights”, the Public Organization “Association of Legal Clinics of Ukraine”, the Coordination Council of Young Lawyers of the “Main Department of Justice in Kyiv Region”, the Kyiv Regional Organization of the Union of Lawyers of Ukraine, the Public Organization “Center for Legal Protection and Legal Education”.
The department constantly operates a scientific group "SCRIPTUM", headed by the associate professor of the department, candidate of legal sciences, associate professor Bilous Tetyana Yosypivna. Members of the group are actively engaged in scientific activities, participate in international and all-Ukrainian scientific and practical conferences, round tables and other scientific and communicative events.
