For a researcher, the legal securing of rights to their own research, monographs, articles, or study guides is an essential component of intellectual property protection.

According to Ukrainian legislation, copyright for a scientific work arises automatically from the moment of its creation. However, it is state registration and obtaining an Official Certificate that provide official confirmation of authorship (presumption of authorship) and simplify the defense of rights in the event of disputes or plagiarism.

Which objects of STU researchers are subject to registration?

  • Scientific articles, monographs, dissertation research, brochures;
  • Textbooks, study guides, and teaching-methodological manuals;
  • Computer programs and databases;
  • Lecture materials and other results of scientific and pedagogical activity.

How to register copyright independently?

The procedure can be completed without engaging external lawyers. The application is submitted to the National Intellectual Property Authority (UANIPIO / IP Office) online via the Electronic Services Portal or by post:

  1. Prepare the application: choose the appropriate application form – for copyright registration of a work or a work made for hire (created within the scope of employment duties or under an employment contract) – these are different application forms.
  2. Attach a copy of the work: a copy of the scientific work is submitted in accordance with formatting requirements (for programs/databases, a description is additionally attached).
  3. Pay the fee: pay the state fee for preparation for state copyright registration for individuals in the amount of UAH 255 and attach the payment receipt.
  4. Receive the certificate: application review takes up to 2–3 months, after which you receive a certificate (in electronic or paper form).

Important for researchers of the State Tax University:

Depositing data on certificates in the repository ensures open access to information about your intellectual achievements, promotes their dissemination in the scientific community, and confirms the academic authority of both the author and the university as a whole.

Dear Researchers! Upon receiving a certificate, be sure to submit its data to the Library for inclusion in the University Register and placement in the Institutional Repository – this increases your scientometric indicators and the rating of an STU scientific and pedagogical employee.
