January 22 – Day of Unity of Ukraine
By the Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 871/2014 dated November 13, 2014, the holiday – Day of Unity of Ukraine – was officially restored. It is celebrated annually on January 22, the day of the proclamation of the Act of Unification of the UNR and the WUNR.
Historically, the Act of Unification fulfilled the age-old dream of the Ukrainian people for an independent, united national state. The event became a powerful manifestation of the will of Ukrainians for ethnic and territorial consolidation, a testament to their dynamic self-identification, and the formation of a political nation.
Russia's full-scale war has forced us to perceive the existence of Ukrainian statehood as the existence of our own lives, as hope for a happy future for our children, and hope for freedom and peace among the free and peaceful nations of Europe.
In the Ukrainian language, "sobornist" (unity) means all-encompassing unity, integrity, and indivisibility. May this solemn day strengthen our unity and patriotism, and inspire everyone to work for the welfare of our country!
