Every year on May 23, Ukraine celebrates Heroes' Day. On this day, Ukrainians honor the memory of the Heroes who fought for the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine in different eras, and who are currently leading the fight against the russian army for our freedom.
The idea of honoring hero-fighters originated in the national liberation movement during World War II. It was established by a resolution of the Second Great Assembly of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN), which took place in Kraków in April 1941.
This date is dedicated to the memory of Yevhen Konovalets, one of the most prominent Ukrainian nationalists, who was assassinated on May 23, 1938, by an NKVD agent. Additionally, May 3, 1924, marked the passing of Mykola Mikhnovsky, the chief ideologist of Ukraine's state independence at the beginning of the 20th century and one of the authors of the ideological foundations of Ukrainian nationalism; and on May 25, 1926, Symon Petliura, the leader of the Ukrainian national liberation struggle of 1917–1921, was assassinated.
To mark this occasion, the Scientific Library of the State Tax University has launched a book exhibition titled «Knight of Unconquered Ukraine» (Room 372, Building C) and prepared a virtual exhibition «Ukrainians are a Nation of Heroes». The exposition features books that depict the heroic past and present of Ukraine: the liberation struggles, the feat of the Heroes of Kruty, the activities of the OUN-UPA, Yevhen Konovalets, Symon Petliura, and the heroism of Ukrainians participating in the russian-Ukrainian war.
Among the exhibited publications, a special place is dedicated to books about the heroic defense of Irpin. Furthermore, memory books are presented, which tell the stories of our heroes – graduates, lecturers, and staff members of the State Tax University.

Eternal glory to the Heroes!
