The Shevchenko Prize is 65 years old!

On May 20, 2026, we celebrated the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine (the Shevchenko Prize) – the highest state award for creative achievements in the fields of literature, culture, and art.

Initially, it was established as the T. G. Shevchenko Republican Prize. It was awarded for highly artistic works in literature, journalism, fine arts, music, theater, and cinema.

The first to receive the Laureate's Diploma and Honorary Badge on March 9, 1962, were Pavlo Tychyna and Oles Honchar in the field of literature, and Platon Maiboroda in the field of music. In April 1969, the Republican Prize was renamed the «State Prize of the Ukrainian SSR named after Taras Shevchenko».

With Ukraine gaining its state independence, a new chapter in the history of the Shevchenko Prize began.

In 2000, in order to enhance the role and prestige of the State Prize of Ukraine named after Taras Shevchenko, according to the Decree of the President of Ukraine, this highest distinction in literature, art, and culture was officially named the «Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine».

To mark this occasion, the Scientific Library of the State Tax University has prepared:

  • A book exhibition titled «Laureates of the Shevchenko Prize», which features works by Shevchenko Prize winners of various years from the library's own funds. The exhibition is on display at the Academic Literature Loan Department (Room 372, Building C).
  • virtual exhibition dedicated to this theme.
  • video review titled «Book Exhibition Dedicated to the 65th Anniversary of the Shevchenko Prize».
