When history is written before our very eyes…

On March 25, 2026, John Connors, an Irish writer, historian, and tireless volunteer, returned to the State Tax University to present his book, «THE UNBREAKABLE STATE TAX UNIVERSITY». The publication is dedicated to the tragic and heroic events of Spring 2022 in Irpin.

The presentation was organized with the support of the Faculty of Social and Humanitarian Technologies, Sports and Rehabilitation. It took place as part of the international project «Voices Across Borders: War Testimonies in Translation», which aims to share the truth about Ukraine with the world and strengthen intercultural dialogue.

The primary goal of the upcoming book is to preserve memory and the lived truth. With eight trips to Ukraine during the war – including visits to Bucha and Irpin – John Connors gathered live testimonies and engaged in heartfelt, deeply emotional conversations. These interactions form the foundation of texts that are destined to become history. The content is shaped by the personal stories of students, faculty, and university staff, providing a comprehensive picture of the events. A particular depth is added to the edition by the diary of Halyna Chyhryna, written during the occupation of the city.

During the event, the author introduced notes from the forthcoming publication and shared his personal experience of processing what he witnessed. He emphasized the vital importance of documenting the war to provide the international community with an objective understanding of the conflict in Ukraine. Notably, the translation of materials into English, performed by philology students, has made these testimonies accessible to a global audience.

The future book is more than just a text. It is the voices of people; it is a story of resilience, dignity, and faith. It stands as a testament to the strength of our academic community, which maintains unity and a drive toward the future even in the darkest of times.

The Scientific Library of the State Tax University joined this landmark event and received its own copy of the presented edition.
