The international Zoom meeting brought together law students and heads of legal clinics from the Educational and Scientific Institute of Law of the State Tax University and the University of Manchester.

We talked about:

  • the work of clinics in two countries
  • how students gain practical experience
  • first steps in a legal career
  • how to more actively involve teachers and practitioners in clinical education

The English-language event was actively attended by higher education students and teachers of the National Institute of Law, in particular, Olga Yutovets, Ivan Matviychuk, Lisa Melnyk, Oleg Urban, Ivan Shvaiko, Valentyn Pidgorodetskyi, associate professor of the Department of Civil Law and Procedure, Ph.D. Igor Kotovych, and interns from Manchester - Jackson Mcguire, Eve McLaughlin, Milena Bologan, Abhishu Chatterjee, Melissa Smith, Aoife Baxter, guests from other Ukrainian universities.

The meeting began with welcoming remarks from the heads of the legal clinics – PhD, Associate Professor Lyubov Omelchuk and Dr Philip J Drake PhD, LLM.

After that, students from both universities presented their legal clinics and took part in the discussion of the specifics of their activities.

Presentations, videos, live communication – everything you need for a real international academic exchange.

The event was held with the assistance of the Department of Theory and History of State and Law and Valeria Antoshkina - a participant in the Researchers at Risk Fellowship program, initiated by the British Academy and Cara (the Council for At-Risk Academics), who moderated the meeting.

Thank you to the partners from Manchester for the openness and interesting conversation!

We hope that this meeting will be a good start to fruitful cooperation between the legal clinics of both universities!
